๐งก Help Us Build a Lifeline – The Bearded Fishermen Crisis House
Every day, our team at The Bearded Fishermen Charity answers calls from people in despair — people who feel lost, frightened, and unsure where to turn next.
We’ve sat with people at 3 a.m. who’ve said, “I just can’t do this anymore.”
We’ve listened to countless stories of pain, loneliness, and fear.
And every time, we do everything we can to help — to listen, to guide, to support.
But too often, we reach the same heartbreaking moment:
there simply isn’t a safe place for that person to go.
Our Vision: A Safe Crisis House
We want to change that.
Our dream is to create a Safe Crisis House — a warm, welcoming refuge for people facing short-term mental health crises. A place that feels safe, not clinical. A place filled with care, understanding, and hope.
We’re aiming to raise £1,000,000 to make this dream a reality.
The Bearded Fishermen Crisis House will have:
- 6 private, comfortable rooms for individuals in crisis
- 24/7 support from trained staff and volunteers
- Access to mental health and wellbeing resources
- A calm environment where people can take a breath, find stability, and rebuild their strength
This house will save lives — plain and simple.
Why It’s So Needed
Right now, people in crisis often have nowhere safe to turn. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and mental health services are stretched to the limit.
Too many people are left alone at their lowest point.
Our crisis house will fill that gap — offering immediate, compassionate support in a safe, non-clinical setting. It’s about providing hope when it’s needed most.
Who We Are
The Bearded Fishermen Charity was founded by Mick Leyland and Rick Roberts — two ordinary men who saw an extraordinary need.
We started by listening — just being there for people struggling with their mental health. Over time, that grew into crisis response work, community outreach, and the opening of our mental health hubs in Gainsborough and at Drax Power Station.
We’re also working to open a Lincoln hub, expanding our reach so that more people can get the support they deserve.
Now, our next step is the most important one yet — building a Safe Crisis House that offers real help, right when it’s needed.
